2008-2009 Schedule for Effective Writing Courses

The Writing Center, Inc. will present the following public writing courses in 2008-2009 at Springhouse Education & Consulting Services in Exton, PA.

Class size is limited. Participants are invited to send samples of their on-the-job writing for confidential feedback. Course costs are per person and include course materials.

Effective Business Writing
Description: A review of strategies to increase the clarity, impact, and professionalism of e-mail, memos, letters, and reports. How to eliminate wordiness. How to reduce writing and rewriting time. How to organize, begin and end documents effectively. How to present ideas strategically and diplomatically. How to recognize and correct the 10 most common errors in business documents.

Writing Effective E-Mail/Email Etiquette
Description: A review of the latest e-mail etiquette and standards. How to avoid 10 common e-mail mistakes; ensure a clear, focused message; begin and end e-mail effectively; organize for greatest impact; and ensure professional presentation.

Business Grammar/Editing and Proofreading
Description: Five steps to recognize and correct wordiness. Hands-on practice to update your knowledge of essential punctuation, spelling, usage and grammar rules. A review of editing and proofreading tips to ensure mechanically correct and flawlessly professional documents.

Technical Writing
Description: How to write clear, understandable, well-organized reports, manuals, procedures, and other technical documents. How to write for readers with varying expertise and to emphasize important information. How to write executive summaries and present results and recommendations. How to incorporate illustrations.

Writing Performance Appraisals
Description: How to write precise, objective, motivational performance appraisals. Three time-saving tips to streamline the performance appraisal process. Selecting supporting detail to prove ratings and emphasize group objectives. Using positive, reader-centered wording to ensure acceptance and motivate change. Writing SMART action plans to meet developmental objectives.
